Your Guide To MTEL Prep Changes 2021 & 2022
In my 22 years of MTEL test prep experience, I have seen many versions of each MTEL; they like to change the exams every few years. This always alters test preparation (and the detailed explanations that make any test information guides worthwhile). I’ve documented this in several other blogs that you can find here:
How to Pass the Writing Subtest of the Communication & Literacy MTEL
How to Pass the Reading Subtest of the Communication & Literacy MTEL
While these changes to test objectives entail a lot of work for us here at ETI, while we update our programs & MTEL preparation courses, it is always worth the effort to offer our students the best and most current MTEL programs and MTEL practice tests. Beware of other educational programs, publications, and Internet programs; most of them do NOT update their materials for new versions of the MTELs.
According to DESE, there are several planned changes to the MTELs which will be occurring over the next year.
As many of our joinETI.com students are aware, the Foundations of Reading exam was updated and operational this past February. However, updates for several more of the Massachusetts educator licensure exams are in the works with release dates as early as this month and as late as the summer of 2022.
Because of these changes, I recommend you take these exams before they change. While I have every confidence that ETI will have excellent programs and sample tests for the new versions, there is always an adjustment period while information is gathered about new, official MTEL versions.
Take classes now and pass your MTEL exams ASAP before you are forced to take a new and unknown exam!

For ETI-covered exams, the biggest changes are coming to the General Curriculum MTEL. Currently, the General Curriculum consists of two exams, the Multi-Subject and the Math. The Multi-Subject test consists of English, science, and history; the math consists of, well, math. The new version separates the subjects differently. Next summer, there will be an ELA/History General Curriculum MTEL and a Math/Science General Curriculum MTEL.
As more information is released, I will let you know how I think the new versions will be implemented.
In the meantime, please study now and get certified before the exams are changed.
As always, we are here to help. We guarantee your MTEL success and have been doing so since 1999.
