The Communication and Literacy Reading self-paced video program covers the basics of reading comprehension and provides strategic insight for each of the six question types that appear on this exam. You will learn what is expected on each type of question and which questions can be answered correctly without even reading the passage. Students who have already taken the Communication and Literacy Writing prep course will be especially well-prepared for this class.The curriculum is a 70-page booklet written specifically for the MTEL Communication and Literacy Reading exam by Chuck Zucco. Finding the Main Idea: Students begin by reviewing the basics of reading comprehension. The instructor discusses the basic strategy of reading a passage for main idea. Important concepts and strategies will be explained such as “attractor” answer choices and an active, aggressive approach to understanding each paragraph and passage. The instructor will walk students through example passages before they practice on their own in class. Homework is assigned to review and practice concepts learned in class.
The Question Types: This strategy-focused lesson guides students through the six question types they will encounter on the Communication and Literacy Reading exam. The instructor teaches strategies for approaching these questions and explains what graders look for in an answer. Students also have an opportunity to practice each question type ten times.
